RCB Victory Parade Stampede: 10 Dead in Bengaluru Stampede, Toll Likely to Rise
Bengaluru | June 4, 2025 – What was meant to be a grand celebration for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s historic IPL 2025 win turned into a nightmare, as a stampede outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium led to the deaths of at least 10 people, with many others reportedly injured. The crowd had gathered in thousands for the RCB victory parade when chaos unfolded at Gate No. 3 of the stadium.
According to official reports, six people were declared dead at Bowring Hospital in Shivajinagar. Meanwhile, four more deaths were confirmed by medical staff at Vaidehi Hospital, located on Mallya Road. The total casualty count is feared to rise as more injured victims are being brought in for treatment.
What Led to the Stampede?
Sources confirm that a stampede-like situation broke out when the crowd surged toward the gate where the RCB players were expected to make a celebratory appearance. The excitement of fans, coupled with limited crowd control, led to an uncontrollable situation.
Witnesses say that from the early evening, fans began thronging the roads from Vidhan Soudha to the stadium, hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite cricketers holding the IPL 2025 trophy during the open-bus parade.
Chaos and Overcrowding in Central Bengaluru
The entire Central Business District (CBD) around the stadium was thrown into disarray, with traffic coming to a standstill. Police and traffic officials struggled to manage the swelling crowd that included people arriving by buses, autos, Namma Metro, and even on foot.
Several ambulances were seen rushing the injured to hospitals as the situation worsened. To add to the chaos, heavy rain began lashing the area shortly after 5 PM, further escalating panic and disorganization.
Official Involvement and Felicitation Event
Before the team could reach Chinnaswamy Stadium, they were honored at the Vidhan Soudha by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. The felicitation ceremony added to the hype around the team’s arrival, drawing even more fans to the stadium.
Statement from Authorities
Hospital and police authorities have requested the public to remain calm and avoid large gatherings around sensitive areas. An official from Bowring Hospital confirmed that the injured are being given priority treatment, and efforts are ongoing to identify the deceased and inform their families.
